A comprehensive view of the current literature available on national culture and its impact on organizational behavior is included in this chapter. Various views on dimensions of culture are explored along with Hofstede’s model. A review of his findings on the Arab World with a brief assessment of the literature on Jordan, its culture, and the public and private sectors are included.

Chapter 4

Here the author discusses the findings, which are uncovered from the research process in the context of the literature discussed in chapter 3 as well as per the initial projections and expected outcomes of the study.

Chapter 5

The final chapter of the report outlines the conclusions, which are arrived at through the study, and the implications of findings for Jordanian companies, specifically in the area of HRM. The author’s recommendations are included along with a direction for future studies.

INTRODUCTION

Decades ago, the level of cross-cultural business dealings was limited to an import-export transactions. But with the rapid phase of globalization, growth in Free Trade, and the relaxation of Foreign-Direct-Investment policies of many of the previously closed economies, many multinationals are embarking on FDI activities in foreign countries (Hill, C. 2003). Many nations in the developing world have embraced the opportunities for economic growth and job creation through the attraction of FDI from developed nations and this has proven to be a notable means of alleviating economic and human development hardships being experienced by less endowed nations of the world.

Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is one such nation in the Arab world that is currently promoting itself as an attractive venue for Foreign Direct Investments, especially in the Information & Communication Technology (ITC) industry and the tourism industry (Al-Jaghoub, S & Westrup, C 2003). Led by the charismatic leader, King Abdullah, the country is poised today to capitalize on the growing world market for software and information technology products, which can be catered to through the abundance of high-caliber human capital endowment the country is in possessing.
