What does the believe an invader of a free should do to prevent rebellions? What about cities under the rule of a dictator? Do the same principles apply? Why or why not?
According to the author, when an invader goes and takes a free city, in order to prevent rebellions, one should provide them freedom which they once had. In invading a city being rules by a dictator, in order to prevent rebellion from the people, one had to continue enforcing dictatorial rule over them. Therefore, principles to prevent rebellions in these two cities will be different because of the existent authority and the inability of the people to accept change.

According to Machiavelli, he proposes free cities to be given mandate to hold free and fair elections to elect a leader who is chosen by the majority. In addition, he proposes a government in place that will look and control some of these freedoms granted to them.
3. When one has acquired new territory, how should a new ruler proceed? Is it better if fortune played a role in his victories? What dangers does the author see in that situation?
According to the book, in acquiring a new territory, one should place a new ruler who should lias with the local leaders of that tribe in regard to the ways of governship. Fortune usually does not play a role in victories, but strategy. When one depends on fortune, failure can occur when one is not prepared.
4. If a city is overtaken by cruelty, what does the author think is best for the victors to do? Are people more or less apt to rise up against cruelty? Explain your answer.
In a city undertaken by cruelty, according to the author, it will be wiser for the victors not to rise up against it since they might cause a rebellion against them.
5. If is better to be feared or loved if you are in control? Do people work better if they are afraid of authorities or do they work better if people in authority are friendly? Give examples to support your answer.
It is better for a ruler to be feared since that is the way he or she would make his or her subjects to do things that he or she wants imposed. In a work environment, people always work better when they are afraid of the authority compared to when the authority is friendly. In a factory, when employees are friends to the manager, they may slack in doing their duties, but if they fear the manager, they will never slack in their jobs for fear of punishment.
6. Why was Hannibal successful in crossing the Alps with an army of elephants? What qualities did he possess that encouraged his men to continue, even when the odds were against their success?
Hannibal was successful to cross Alp with an army of elephants because he had calculated his move way in advance. He was an authoritative, clever, brave and tactful leader who had led his men into many victories and hence his men believed him against all odds.
