Running head: ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY ASSIGNMENT Assessment and Accountability Assignment Tutor:Date:353423Assessment and Accountability Assignment Formative assessment includes the process of offering explicit feedback in order to improve students' level of understanding and achievement of the supposed outcomes of the subject. The approach further encompasses continually examining the level of the student's academic development. Using formative assessment provides one with continuous, explicit response to the students and as well help in responding to several questions such as where is I heading to What level is in currently What approaches can I employ in closing the gap between these two worlds (Coffey, 2009).

To answer these questions, there is the need for one, as the teacher to assist the students in examining their performance and progress in the whole process of learning. They also need to offer them with descriptive and explicit responses which are certain to the task of learning. According to Coffey (2009), some of the learning activities which would help the students in achieving the goals of formative assessment would include: Students, with the help of the teacher setting short-term goals so as to be able to monitor their progress and create a big picture of the subject.

As the teacher, one should identify and communicate the goals of the course for achievement of the supposed results. There is need to communicate these objectives in a language which is learner-friendly for the learners to comprehend and take part in completing their obligations. One needs to introduce self and peer-assessment which are crucial in offering the students with a chance to consider their learning. This would make the students have responsibility of their work and examine their own performance.

Opportunities which model the students to take part in the learning process actively for constructive and meaningful response would be included. The teacher would need to establish a convenient environment that makes students feel as partners to the process of learning and create mutual respectful spaces as well as a trust which offers responsive feedback. Silvestri (2010) asserts that formative assessments have been over the years employed by educators in providing classroom instruction and monitoring.

The assessments are not usually employed in the students' grade point average. Most of the most commonly used formative assessment in modern teaching includes pop quizzles, work sheets, journals, diagnosis tests as well as informal observation. Among these approaches, diagnostic tests have proved to be one of the best methods as it makes to teacher to be in a position to evaluate the students' performance and the performance of the particular subject. This approach is used in most cases in designing instruction courses.

Diagnostic tests are generally employed as the class term starts. They allow the instructor as well as the administrator to find out the most appropriate instruction level for the students. This kin of assessment is used to evaluate the mastery of information, comprehension, and proficiency level in all subjects (Silvestri, 2010). There is always the need of informing the students while conducting the assessments that the diagnostic tests would be employed in assisting them to identify their weak as well as strong points as far as the subject under study is concerned but not for grading.

This would help in reducing the level of anxiety for the students and provide better results.ReferencesCoffey, H. (2009). Formative assessment.
