Experience Gained in Removing Legacy Servers and Moving the Infrastructure to Windows 2003 In working for the Platform Standardization Initiative at PMO Organization charged with the responsibility of removing legacy server and moving the infrastructure to windows 2003, I gained a number of experiences. The most profound experience was building a strong core team for the project management. To carry out this activity, I engaged all the stakeholders within the company so that we could revitalize the vision of moving the infrastructure to windows 2003.

In my experience to build a strong core team, I first planned to deploy the tools to end users. In the very activity, there was need to hold meetings with all IT experts within the organization who have ever worked with windows 2003. Such experts included those dealing with the hardware of computers, those dealing with the desktop, members of the server team, help-desk technicians and interior developers of the project. All these members were assembled so that the decision making process could be made easier.

As the coordinator, I explained to each member of the mobilized team the need to remove legacy servers and move the infrastructure to windows 2003. In this case, the meetings were held with the view to facilitate easy usability of windows 2003 by the end users of the program. Some of the challenges encountered were questions raised with the need to assemble organization application catalog that could be utilized in compatibility testing. Each member of the team therefore was assigned a specific role to play so that conflicts of work could be avoided.

However, the final decision was left to the project manager. The main focus of the group was how to put together the catalog or find reasons why one end user on the desktop team had a spreadsheet on specific information and had not refreshed it in. At the end of this activity, I realized that work had been made easier and every section of managing the project moved on smoothly. Reference:Kaplan, S., Reeser, T. & Wood, A. (2006).
