You will see how lots of money can help out a cause such as Oprah Winfrey’s work with girls in South Africa, though it may not have been necessary to spend so much money to achieve success. Other celebrities have used their big names and big bank accounts to help many causes, too, which is worthwhile. But do these efforts help the celebrities feel as satisfied as volunteering? It is called volunteerism when people donate their time for a meaningful event. Volunteerism enables people to achieve success in their causes without spending a cent.

Volunteerism is the practice of working on behalf of others without being motivated by financial or material gain. According to the Volunteer Centre of Ottawa, Canada, volunteerism promotes good or improves human quality of life. People receive many benefits from volunteer work. There are also social and individual benefits such as promoting trust between citizens, developing friendships, gaining work experience, receiving recognition, because of family ties, and to develop personal emotional wellbeing.

Personal growth opportunities include learning new skills, discovering capabilities you didn’t know you had, learning about yourself and other people, and definitely overcoming challenges. To me, overcoming challenges is one of the most important benefits of volunteering because it feels so wonderful to succeed when you thought you could not do it.
