Goals and Mission of American Cancer SocietyAbstract In this paper, a detailed analysis about American Cancer Society will be conducted with focus on its goals, missions and organizational structure. Correspondingly, the approaches made by the organization in delivering significant benefits to the common people and the patients experiencing cancer disease have been determined in this paper. The obtained results accordingly suggests that American Cancer Society has been quite competitive and responsive in dealing with the daily needs of the community, which in turn have adequately assisted the organization in accomplishing its missions as well as determined goals in a productive way.

Summary of the Goals and Mission of American Cancer SocietyThe American Cancer Society is a healthcare organization, which operates nationally in the US. The organization works towards ensuring the deliverance of better healthcare to the community people nationwide. The mission of the company has been concentrated on the formation of a cancer free society in the near future. In correspondence to its mission, the organization also follows certain short-term goals, such as identifying the healthcare affordability of patients suffering from cancer and taking requisite measures to suffice the community healthcare needs.

The goals of the organization include identification of the rate for cancer spread within the community and maintaining continuous records of age-based as well as typological variances of cancer disease, with the sole intention to aid patients with effective healthcare facilities. In addition, the organization raises funds to have a comprehensive understanding of the cure and prevention of the disease with utmost efficiency through continuous research and innovation. Apart from this, the organization also works in a collaborative manner with various agencies and associations in combating against this severe disease, which also includes delivering effective healthcare services to the patients suffering from the disease (The American College of Surgeons, 2013; 1American Cancer Society, 2013).

Altogether, these approaches assist the organization in accomplishing its long-term vision to build up a cancer free society in America. Organizational StructureAssessing the organizational structure of the American Cancer Society, it can be apparently witnessed that various additions have been made in its progression from a small to a complex framework. To be precise, in order to accommodate resources required to support its continuously expanding operations, moving gradually to the worldwide context, the organizational structure of the American Cancer Society became complex over the past few years.

Subsequently, a high degree of ethnic and culturally diversification in its workforce can be observed, which ensures the operational competencies of the organization in accomplishing its mission. In addition, the organization also readily involves a mass of volunteers working for it across 5100 communities around the nation. In the current scenario, the organization works in 12 divisions separately with one Board of Director along with several volunteers. In the recent years, the organization emerged with a new organizational structure, wherein each of its divisions was instructed to perform their activities in an independent way, setting their short-term missions in alliance with that of the organization on the whole (American Cancer Society, 2012).

Benefits that General Public Receive from the OrganizationIt is quite evident from the above discussion that the organization constantly seeks to help people in dealing with the disease of cancer. In precise, the organization intends to develop effective laws for the common people suffering from the chronic disease (cancer), so that they can lead a healthy life. Furthermore, it has also been noted that the organization conducts various campaigns frequently with regard to generate a comprehensive understanding about the preventive measures that can help common people in mitigating chances of cancer (American Cancer Society, 2012).

The organization is also involved in conducting researches for the purpose of understanding every vital aspect associated with the disease. The organization strongly believes that this could serve people in every possible scenario linked with the prevention of cancer (Sawhill & Williamson, 2001). Thus, it can be affirmed that all the aforementioned approaches, devised by the organization were directly related to serving people in the American society. Funding Structure of the OrganizationThe America Cancer Society can be duly considered as one of the leading healthcare charity foundations, next to the Red Cross.

It has been viewed that almost all the financial needs of the organization are fulfilled through charity funds from private supporters and also by conducting fundraising campaigns. The organization receives substantial amounts of donations from its supporters located throughout the globe. The efficiency of the organization in raising funds can be advocated emphasizing the fact that in the year 2011, it was the only organization to receive donations from over 6.5 millions donors including corporate houses, individuals and various communities within and outside America.

Since then, the figure has also shows continuous increase, which also advocates the overall effectiveness of the organization (2American Cancer Society, 2013; American Cancer Society, 2012). Importance of Being Involved In a Professional OrganizationBeing associated with a professional organization would certainly enable a person to have a comprehensive understanding about certain unexplored aspects relating to his/her key areas of expertise. The experience, which one can acquire from being associated with a professional organization, may also help him or her to enhance creativity and develop personal skills on a continuous basis.
